3rd Vietnam Energy and Power Development Summit 2022: the trade show

Vietnam is one of the most efficient power markets in Southeast Asia, the country has achieved around 99% electrification with relatively low cost in comparison to neighboring countries. As a regional manufacturing hub, Vietnam increases its energy needs rapidly. Power demand has increased by approximately 10 percent per year over the past decade. Nowadays, Vietnam’s Power Development Plan 8 draft proposes to increase electricity capacity to 146,000 MW by 2030 and incorporate the use of diversified sources of power in renewable energy as well as other fuel sources such as hydrogen and ammonia.

The 3rd Vietnam Energy and Power Development Summit 2022 will be held on November 8-9 in Hanoi, which will invite National Power Companies, Government Regulators, Policy Makers, Renewable & IPPs, Investors and Suppliers from 30+ countries in the region to discuss the most concerned topics in the Gas-to-Power, Thermal Power, Wind Power, Solar Power, LNG, Hydrogen.

Vietnam Power Projects coming Up:

  • Samsung C&T and Lilama announced a $940 million engineering, procurement and construction contract for Vietnam first LNG-fueled power plant. The 1,500-megawatt facility will be operated by PetroVietnam Power, which is slated to come online in 2024 or 2025.
  • GE announced that PetroVietnam Power Corp.’s Nhon Trach 3 & 4 Power Plant, with 1.6 GW of generation capacity, will use two GE 9HA.02 gas turbines. It also will be the first power station in Vietnam fueled by liquefied natural gas.
  • The Bac Lieu liquefied natural gas -to-power plant is a 3.2GW power plant proposed to be built in the Bac Lieu province of Vietnam by Delta Offshore Energy.
  • The Son My 1 Power Plant is 2,250MW gas fired power project. It is planned in Binh Thuan, Vietnam. The project is currently in permitting stage. It will be developed in multiple phases. The project construction is likely to commence in 2025.
  • The Son My 2 Power Plant is 2,250MW gas fired power project. It is planned in Binh Thuan, Vietnam. The project is currently in permitting stage. It will be developed in multiple phases. The project construction is likely to commence in 2023.
  • The Ca Na LNG Power Plant I is 1,500MW gas fired power project. It is planned in Ninh Thuan, Vietnam. The project is currently in permitting stage. It will be developed in single phase. The project construction is likely to commence in 2023.
  • Vietnam to Build First Hydrogen Plant, Coal to Still be Dominant Power Source. Vietnamese company TGS Green Hydrogen is to build the country’s first hydrogen plant with an investment worth US$840 million. When completed, the plant is expected to generate around 24,000 tons of hydrogen, 150,000 tons of ammonia, and 195,000 tons of oxygen annually.
  • In the case of solar, Vietnam master plan targets to achieve 850 MW in 2020, about 4,000 MW in 2025 and about 12,000 MW by 2030 – more than 14x growth in capacity in a 10-year span
  • Utility group SP Group is partnering CJ OliveNetworks Vina to develop up to 50 megawatt-peak (MWp) worth of rooftop solar projects in Vietnam
  • The Ninh Thuan Solar Power is a 168-megawatt peak (MWp) utility-scale solar farm located in the Ninh Thuan province of Vietnam, which is developed by a joint venture company established by Sunseap International and InfraCo Asia Development Pte. Ltd.
  • Vietnam has the most ambitious wind power development plan in ASEAN, with a target of 11,800 megawatts of wind power capacity by 2025. This is about four times that of Thailand 3000 MW by 2036 and five times that of the Philippines 2378 MW by 2030.
  • Vietnam Electricity and Impact Energy Asia Development Limited signed the 25-year Power Purchase Agreement for the Monsoon Wind Project, a 600MW wind energy project to be located in Lao PDR. Not only will the Monsoon Wind Project be ASEAN’s largest wind farm, but it will also be the region’s first cross-border wind energy project.
