UEG Week leads the field in terms of innovation and cutting-edge research

UEG Week is the most prestigious meeting of its kind in Europe, and many consider it to be the best digestive diseases meeting in the world. In mid-October (15-19), Vienna will hold a new edition and, in order to stay up-to-date about all the novelties we have interviewed the organizers of the event. Don't miss all the details...

UEG Week is the largest meeting of its kind in Europe. What makes it different from other similar meetings?

United European Gastroenterology Week (UEG Week) is the largest and most prestigious event of its kind in Europe and will be taking place in Vienna between October 15-19, 2016.

UEG Week leads the field in terms of innovation and cutting-edge research and provides participants with the opportunity to present new research projects and approaches in the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal disease.

And what represents UEG Week on the annual calendar of the field?

UEG Week complements the various national associations’ conventions and training events and offers more than 13,000 medical practitioners and scientists an excellent opportunity to present their latest research results on the subject of Digestive Health to the international community and to extend their professional network.

This year, UEG Week will be returning to Vienna, which boasts rich imperial tradition and is the home of classical music. The congress will be held in the Austria Center Vienna (ACV), which is Austria’s largest conference centre in the heart of the capital.

And what are the benefits for the sector?

The congress offers features such as innovative seminars for postgraduates, abstracts, posters and parallel live streams for a global audience. In the course of the two-day Postgraduate Teaching Programme and a three-day scientific programme, UEG Week has a great deal to offer young and experienced medical practitioners, scientists and basic researchers, always staying true to our motto ‘advancing science – linking people’.

From all around the world more than 120 sessions will be available to stream live through UEG Week Live between Saturday, October 15 to Wednesday, October 19.

Can you advance the highlights for the next edition?

Professor Michael Manns, President of UEG, comments, “For scientists and researchers, UEG Week provides a unique platform for exchanging knowledge and information on all areas of digestive health. I am personally looking forward to the presentation on new diagnostic criteria for gastrointestinal disorders, and other highlights include the very popular live endoscopy sessions and ‘Today's Science; Tomorrow's Medicine' series."

What is the participant's profile?

We encourage a variety of delegates from all over the world to attend UEG Week, and the topics covered will be of interest to the entire gastrointestinal community. The congress provides innovative seminars for both experienced medical practitioners and the experts of tomorrow, and delegates will be granted access to all scientific sessions and congress materials.

The strength of the event is its Scientific programme; do you recommend us a session in particular?

Sessions at UEG Week 2016 will cover all areas of gastroenterology and hepatology. The scientific programme includes all aspects of this speciality, ranging from basic science to clinical practice guidelines. Every year, the top five abstracts submitted to UEG Week are awarded a prize of €10,000. These exciting topics, along with an array of other new developments that are due to be presented during the congress, will provide delegates with a fantastic insight into the world of digestive health.

Finally, can you give us some participation results from the last edition?

Last year, UEG Week Barcelona 2015 saw over 13,200 delegates attend from 114 countries around the world. UEG Week will return to Barcelona next year and will be held between October 28 and November 1, 2017.
