Smart Mobility, Empowering Cities

What novelties have you prepared for this 2019 edition?

The 2019 Congress theme of “Smart Mobility, Empowering Cities” reflects Singapore’s commitment to creating the most liveable smart city in support of a higher quality of life and an ever-connected community. The comprehensive format of plenary and interactive sessions, as well as a dynamic exhibition with technical demonstrations and tours the World Congress 2019 has to offer will be an opportunity for all participants to network, discuss and share ground-breaking transport technology, and forge mutually beneficial partnerships to further unleash the power of ITS.

The event presents a multifaceted programme with workshops at ITS World Congress, and special events. Which of the activities do you think are a must for the visitor or which of them do you highlight?

Aside from the knowledge-packed technical programmes and sessions, the key highlights of every ITS World Congresses are the technical tours, exhibition and demonstrations, featuring the latest advancements and technologies in the field of intelligent transportation.

The technical tours this year are designed to provide delegates with knowledge and new perspectives on Singapore’s best-in-class transportation systems. The tours feature a broad spectrum of ITS applications e.g. the Intelligent Transport System Centre (ITSC) Operations Control Centre(OCC), which is the nerve centre that manages traffic in Singapore; PSA Singapore, the world’s largest container transhipment hub; and CETRAN, the testing and research centre for autonomous vehicles.

The exhibition at the ITSWC 2019 will feature more than 300 commercial exhibitors, public administrations and other organisations dedicated to ITS technology and services, spanning across more than 5,000sqm of exhibition space.

Technical demonstrations will be held at the nearby Float @ Marina Bay – the world’s largest floating stage, against the backdrop of an impressive skyline view of Singapore. Participants can see and experience developmental vehicles, systems and concepts, some of which are already on trial or are being test-bedded in Singapore, including Autonomous Vehicles, infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) solutions and static showcases of a smart bus, passenger drone display etc.

What are the advantages of exhibiting at ITS World Congress?

It will be the first time for ITS World Congress to take place in Southeast Asia. Singapore’s strategic location between the East and West has earned her the reputation of a top Asia-Pacific destination for business events, supported by world-class conference and event facilities.  This will attract strong interest and active participation from the region, and open doors to fast-growing markets such as China, India and Southeast Asia. ITSWC 2019 provides exhibitors with tremendous opportunities, acting as the platform to penetrate previously untapped regional markets.

Can you give some tips for those exhibiting for the first time in Singapore and specifically at ITS World Congress? (venue rules, customs, business etiquette...)

We have a dedicated team of exhibition management that will assist and support exhibitors to make sure they have a fruitful experience in ITSWC 2019. Some tips for first-time exhibitors in Singapore include:

  • English is the language of business, widely spoken across the country.
  • The common greeting in Asia starts with a “Hello” and a handshake, with an exchange of business cards.
  • Exhibitors are highly encouraged to dress in business suits or in business casuals.
  • Smoking is not permitted in the venue but there will be designated smoking areas.
  • The standard voltage in Singapore is in between 220 – 240V.

Can you give us some participation results from the last edition? How many visitors attend?  and, from how many different nationalities they are?

ITSWC 2018 Copenhagen was attended by 850 speakers, 2,400 delegates and 10,000 visitors from 96 countries.

Lastly, regarding the exhibitor, how many stand exhibitors participate in the last edition?  from how many different nationalities they are?

ITSWC 2018 Copenhagen was participated by 400 exhibitors spanning across 20,000sqm of exhibition area from all over the world.

Begin your autumn with ITS World Congress in Copenhaguen

Today we had a great opportunity to interviewed Didier Gorteman – CFO & Congress Director from ERTICO – ITS Europe. ITS World Congress takes a place in Copenhagen from 17 to 21 September 2018, you couldn't miss it!

The fair presents ITS Technology. Could you explain it?

The ITS Congresses represent the ultimate showcase of mobility services deployment. Every year, ERTICO organises the ITS regional Congress or World Congress in Europe. These Congresses are the yearly celebration of smart mobility: they underline the importance of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), particularly in cities and regions where they are hosted and are important channels to raise awareness of smart mobility solutions amongst policy makers, experts and the general public.

The 2018 ITS World Congress will attract more than 10,000 participants from over 100 countries and will feature more than 150 sessions, 400 exhibitors, many demonstrations and technical tours, as well as a series of associated events, social occasions and networking possibilities.

What news have you prepared for the 2018 edition? What are the highlights?

There are many articles that you can read on the ITS World Congress Website about the various technologies that will be displayed at the Congress.

For anybody interested in the latest trends in smart and integrated transport, the ITS World Congress represents the ideal opportunity to contribute to and shape this discussion, share knowledge and learn about the latest technologies and policy developments globally. The Congress is an ideal forum to network with like-minded enthusiasts and leading experts with a view to forging new partnerships and pushing forward the transport agenda.

The Congress Programme will be complemented by a 25000 sqm exhibition with the participation of over 400 companies and organisations from all over the world, showcasing their intelligent transport and smart city technologies and solutions.

We look forward to experiencing the future of mobility innovation this September, starting with the downloading of the new MaaS app (MinRejseplan) that will provide free transport to the Congress delegates. This is the first time a MaaS app will be seen in action at an ITS World Congress. The MinRejseplan app allows travellers to plan their journey by using a range of transport and mobility modes, from trains, buses and the Metro, to city bikes, taxis, carpooling and car sharing.

Autonomous Mobility, Bestmile, Ibeo Automotive Systems, Paravan, Local Motors and Hanseatische Fahrzeug Manufaktur are joining forces to create an eco-system that has everything needed to operate a fleet of autonomous vehicles. From the metro station to the exhibition hall experience such innovations as the Kelios first autonomous cab, Aurrigo’s latest 4 seater self-driving pods and Ibeo’s on-demand driverless shuttle service. Experience how the driverless shuttles can be integrated and complement traditional public transport services.

Q-free’s C-ITS for cyclists will also offer participants an interesting and positive urban cycling experience in and around the city of Copenhagen.

In the exhibition, we will see the participation of 400 organisations displaying the latest services and technologies. Amongst them is Toyota Motor Company who has been an active participant of the ITS World Congress since the very first one held in Paris in 1994. Toyota will showcase “Cooperative ITS,” safety technology with the aim of achieving zero traffic fatalities – we believe the ultimate aim of a future mobility society.

The 2018 Congress will also launch the first-ever exhibition space dedicated to young venturers in smart mobility at an ITS World Congress. The Area-C startup connector is an exclusive space for startups, giving over 30 startups the opportunity to present their latest innovations and meet with potential business partners.

Another exciting event of the Congress will be the High-Level Round Table on Tuesday 18 September. Here 15+ Ministers, 25+ Mayors and Deputy Mayors and 25+ National and Local Government Officials and Industry Leaders will gather to review how intelligent and green mobility can contribute to sustainable growth as well as a better environment for all citizens.
