Shale Gas Indonesia – The Unconventional Gas Exploration in Indonesia Summit: the trade show

November 2014 Edition:

Summit overview:-

To date only the United States has been able to claim success in not only the exploration of Shale Gas exploration but more importantly the development of the Shale Gas industry. The benefits of Shale Gas in United States have been immense, energy prices in the US have dropped substantially as a result of abundant natural gas. The US has seen an increase over the last few years in infrastructure projects ranging from gas power plants to pipeline projects all of which have brought much needed jobs to shale reach regions many of these regions where in economic decline prior to the shale gas boom. The abundance of natural gas has seen the state of the US’s dependence on global oil markets change radically to the point where the US will soon become a net exporter of gas.

Lessons learnt in the US have meant that other countries around the world who are sitting on Shale Gas resources can learn from these lessons in developing their markets too. However, as many countries are realizing, learning lessons is not the only requirement. Countries need to develop political will to ensure that the proper regulatory platforms are in place not only to protect the environment but also to ensure that it is financially viable for each country concerned and for the investors in shale gas exploration projects. Poland is a classic example of how not have a clear direction on regulations can almost virtually collapse in industry and chase explorers away overnight. In the world of onshore unconventional gas shale gas is the most expense to explore and investors need regulatory certainty above all when making investment and exploration decisions. Indonesia has recently put 21 blocks of Conventional, Shale Oil and Shale Gas blocks up on offer with a combined estimation of 107Tcf of gas reserves. Eight of these blocks are for Shale Gas. One of the big benefits for Shale Gas exploration companies in Asia is the price of gas is currently around four times the price of the gas in the United States.
